PS Sports Safeguarding Policy for Parents & Carers

Our Commitment

At PS Sports, the safety and wellbeing of every child comes first. We aim to provide a positive, inclusive and safe environment where children can enjoy football, learn and develop.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We take concerns seriously and act promptly, following relevant FA guidance, safeguarding procedures and the rules of the venues we use.

1. Our Expectations

All children should be treated with dignity and respect. Bullying, discrimination, abuse, intimidation or humiliating behaviour are not acceptable.

Coaches are expected to behave professionally, maintain appropriate boundaries, follow PS Sports procedures and report safeguarding concerns without delay.

Coaches must not promise to keep a safeguarding concern secret. Any concern or disclosure will be listened to and passed to the appropriate safeguarding lead or statutory service where necessary.

2. Toilets and Independence

Children attending PS Sports sessions need to be able to use the toilet independently. Coaches are not able to accompany children into toilet cubicles or provide personal toileting assistance.

The toilet facilities available at our venues may be shared, mixed-gender facilities. Parents and carers should ensure their child is comfortable with this arrangement before attending.

If a child needs help, feels uncomfortable or is unable to use the facilities independently, please speak to PS Sports before the session so we can discuss the situation and what reasonable arrangements may be possible. Children should never be made to feel embarrassed about asking for help.

3. Supervision, Arrival and Collection

Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring children arrive at the correct venue and are collected in line with the arrangements agreed for their session.

Children must follow coaches’ instructions and remain within the designated session area. Coaches will follow PS Sports and venue supervision procedures and will not knowingly leave children unsupervised.

Please tell PS Sports in advance about any relevant support needs, collection arrangements or information that may affect a child’s safety.

4. Recruitment and Coach Standards

PS Sports takes appropriate steps to check and authorise staff and coaches for their roles, including relevant checks, training and safeguarding guidance where required.

Coaches must follow the current PS Sports safeguarding procedures and venue rules. Any safeguarding concern must be reported promptly to the designated safeguarding contact.

5. If You Have a Concern

If you are worried about a child’s welfare or something that has happened at a PS Sports session, please contact PS Sports as soon as possible. Concerns will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

If a child is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services on 999.

You can also contact the NSPCC Helpline on 0808 800 5000 for advice, or visit www.nspcc.org.uk.

PS Sports will follow appropriate safeguarding procedures and, where necessary, seek advice from the County FA Welfare Officer, The FA or relevant children’s services.
